Statement on Bloody One-Year After Seizing People Power by Military Junta

February 1, 2022

Today, on February 1, 2022, it has been one year that military junta has staged a coup d’état and overthrew the Democratic Government which was directly elected by the people of all ethnic nationalities through free and fair election.

The progress and development of Myanmar which has been built by the people hand in hand with the government has been brutally destroyed by terrorist military junta with arms power. In this one-year long period, the people of all ethnic groups have bravely fought for democracy and freedom which has been seized by the Fascist army led by terrorist leader Min Aung Hlaing.

The people as a whole protested peacefully and rebelled non-violently against military junta to protect the democracy which they have experienced over the past 10 years and to eliminate the military regime who have oppressed the people for decades with their weapons and their heinous system from this land.

The military dictators, who have neglected the future and development of the country and its people, have illegally arrested, tortured and killed thousands of people for their own interests and power. In addition, many people have been charged of imprisonment with unlawful allegations and been oppressed inhumanely by the military troops. International community are already aware of these situations in Myanmar. Therefore, we must continue to impose appropriate punishments on the military junta and its allies for these crimes.

Especially, we would like to express my sincere gratitude to the new generation of young people, civilian officers who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement revolutionary forces, ethnic resistance organizations, civil societies and the whole people who have joined together unwaveringly throughout the hardship journey of the revolution, holding on to the goals of eliminating military dictatorship and establishing a federal democracy republic for the future of our country and our people despite many difficulties and painfulness.

Until one year after the coup, the military dictator was not able to conduct governance in many parts of the country and the international community- imposed sanctions on economics, diplomatic and politics are the efforts and power of unity of the revolutionary forces at home and abroad.

We call for the international communities including United Nations, European Union and ASEAN to stand with the people of Myanmar who are fighting for democracy restoration with all their lives. We also urge the world to continue to put an end to human rights violation by cruel junta forces, impose stricter economic and diplomatic sanctions on the military junta, and provide humanitarian assistance to Myanmar people in need.

We, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, have stood with the will of the people and restate to keep working together in unity with the ethnic resistance organizations, political parties, students and youths, women, political forces at home and abroad to get rid of the military dictatorship and its atrocious systems in Myanmar and to establish the Federal Democratic Union that all ethnic peoples aspire to.
