On the 15th September, today, the Ceremony of the International Day of Democracy with the theme of ‘Protecting Press Freedom for Democracy’ was successfully organized by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), in which Acting President Duwa Lashi La and Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann from National Unity Government, Chairman U Aung Kyi Nyunt of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, Parliamentarians, cabinet members and representatives from political parties, local and international organizations, diplomats and representatives from international embassies and institutions attended.
On this occasion, Acting President Duwa Lashi La and Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann from National Unity Government, Chairman U Aung Kyi Nyunt of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw delivered their speeches at opening.
U Naung Cho, representative National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), U Lama Naw Aung from Kachin State People’s Party (KSPP), Dr. May Win Myint from National League for Democracy (NLD) party, Nyi Nyi Aung from Student Union Representatives Committee (SURC), Hkawn Nway Oo from Woman Advocacy Coalition-Myanmar (WAC Myanmar), CDM Teacher Su of Ministry of Education (NUG) Representing Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), Actress Chit Thu Wai from Art industry delivered statement respectively.
Delivering remarks by U Min Ko Naing, a democracy activist and a leader of 88 Generation Peace and Open Society, and Dr. Tayzar San, a democracy activist and a leader of General Strike Committee were also included in the agenda.
The Ceremony enjoyed the video show about the democracy movements in Myanmar and was accomplished at 12:00 pm.
