Statement regarding sentencing of President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on fabricated charges by military junta

1. The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw condemns in the strongest term for passing military junta’ additional sentences respectively on President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who have been arbitrarily detained as political hostage on 30 December 2022.

2.  The military junta unlawfully detained innocent civilian including the Heads and officials of the government, elected parliamentarians, human rights and democracy activists after forceful attempt to unlawful coup with the violation of State Constitution and other laws and has sentenced the detained persons without evidences but orders of dictators as exercising judicial mechanism as a political tool. These acts are the systematic destroying of the rule of law and human rights principles of the country.

3.  The military junta and so-called State Administrative Council (SAC) who are terrorist groups have committed systematic operation of serious nationwide human rights violations, mass arson attacks and atrocities by neglecting the efforts of local and international community to cease the ongoing conflicts that have threatened international rule of law and security.

4.  We, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, calls again for International community including ASEAN and the United States, as the efforts to strengthen International rule of law and justice, to take actions on military junta and its bakers for their International crimes including high treason against the state, and to put pressure more to release all detained persons as soon as possible.
