1. The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) is deeply concerned to learn from a statement by Ko Htein Lin, also known as Kim Aris, the son of the State Counsellor of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, that she is currently suffering from a serious heart condition and is not receiving adequate medical treatment while being unjustly detained by the terrorist military junta.
2. The terrorist military junta, having unlawfully seized power from the democratically elected government, has unjustly arrested a total of 29,628 individuals. This includes the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, other national leaders, elected members of parliament, and political activists. As of now, 22,366 of the people remain in detention. According to a statement from the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), those who are arrested are subjected to torture, denied family visits, and held in dire conditions. Furthermore, individuals with life-threatening illnesses are not given adequate medical care. The AAPP also reports that 129 people are still on death row inside prisons, with an additional 44 sentenced to death in absentia. During the coup period, 2,185 people have died while being held in detention.
3. State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is a democratically elected and legitimate national leader by the people. She is also a people’ elected representative from the 2020 General Election. Moreover, we firmly believe that State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi continues to command the stronger support of most of the people and is a key people’s leader in resolving Myanmar’s political crisis. The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) strongly condemns the unjust imprisonment of a democratically elected national leader since February 1, 2021—a total of 1,678 days as of today and the fact that she is being denied adequate medical treatment for her life-threatening heart condition. The refusal to provide Daw Aung San Suu Kyi with good and adequate medical treatment is a politically motivated persecution. The terrorist military council will be held fully accountable for all consequences.
4. The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) has consistently demanded and strived for the end of the illegal military coup and the military dictatorship, and for the establishment of a federal democracy through an all-inclusive political solution and for the immediate release of President U Win Myint, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and all other unjustly detained political prisoners. In the current situation, we consider the immediate release of all detained state leaders, elected members of parliament, and political prisoners to be the crucial first step toward ending conflicts and building lasting peace in our country.
5. Although the terrorist military junta claims to be working for peace, it continues to commit large-scale oppression, criminal violence, and indiscriminate airstrikes that cause mass casualties. This statement serves as a renewed call to the United Nations, ASEAN, neighboring countries, and the international community to provide practical assistance in order to immediately cease the brutal acts of terrorism committed daily by the military junta, to help secure the immediate release of all other unjustly detained political prisoners including people’s leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and to help us build a federal democracy, which is the shared goal of all our forces, so that a swift resolution to Myanmar’s crisis can be achieved.
