Statement (2/2026)

The Republic of Union of Myanmar

The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw

2nd Waning of Nayon 1388 ME

1 June 2026

Statement (2/2026)

1. We are the duly elected representatives of the people, democratically chosen through the free and fair General Election of 2020. At the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held from 15 to 19 April 2026, the Committee Representing the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) was once again recognized as the parliamentary institution legitimately representing the people of Myanmar.

2. The terrorist military junta’s coup d’état of 2021 succeeded only in seizing the parliamentary buildings; it did not succeed in seizing the democratic mandate and delegated authority entrusted by the people. Accordingly, the elected representatives of the 2020 General Election continue to represent the people of Myanmar within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), an organization comprising 183 member parliaments. Likewise, in pursuit of ending military rule and establishing a genuine Federal Democratic Union in our country, we continue to work in cooperation with revolutionary forces, including the Steering Council for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF).

3. Having unlawfully dissolved the legitimate government and committed a crime against the State through its military coup, the terrorist military junta is now attempting to create an illegitimate parliament and government through sham elections in order to secure representation and legitimacy within regional and international organizations, including ASEAN and the United Nations. These efforts are not aimed at restoring stability, peace, or development in Myanmar. Rather, they are intended solely to prolong the junta’s unlawful grip on state power and to secure impunity for the crimes it has committed.

4. Even after establishing its sham parliament and government, the terrorist military junta continues to arbitrarily arrest civilians, conduct airstrikes, forcibly conscript people into military service, and suppress the freedoms, human rights, and democratic aspirations of the people. The junta’s escalating violence and repression continue to force hundreds of thousands of people from their homes and drive many to seek refuge in neighbouring countries, online scam operations that generate substantial profits for the military junta and its affiliated armed groups continue to relocate and operate, while drug trafficking and human trafficking persist unabated as well as junta’s ongoing disregard for the decisions, norms, and laws of regional and international organizations constitute a serious threat not only to Myanmar but also to regional and international peace and security.

5. Any support that enables the terrorist military junta to maintain its unlawful control of state power will undermine the prospects for lasting peace, genuine democracy, and sustainable political development in Myanmar. No dictatorship has ever respected democratic values, human rights principles, or the will of the people. Therefore, the democratic aspirations and peace envisioned by the people of Myanmar, as well as greater respect for international norms and the rule of law, can only be achieved through the complete eradication of unlawful military rule and military dictatorship.

6. Accordingly, the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, composed of representatives lawfully elected by the people of Myanmar in the 2020 General Election, solemnly calls upon ASEAN, international governments, parliaments, organizations, and democratic forces worldwide to undertake the following actions:
(a) Recognize the important role of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the democratic leader trusted and respected by the people of Myanmar, in achieving a genuine resolution to the current political crisis in Myanmar, and exert maximum pressure on the terrorist military junta through all available means to secure the immediate and unconditional release of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all those unjustly detained.

(b) In efforts to address the Myanmar crisis and achieve a durable and sustainable solution, provide more effective support to the Steering Council for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF), the people’s revolutionary forces, and elected representatives of the people.

(c) Increase humanitarian assistance and support for education, healthcare, and other essential services, and cooperate with the Steering Council for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF), including elected representatives, to ensure that such assistance reaches conflict-affected populations directly.

(d) In order to bring an end to the violence perpetrated against the people of Myanmar, halt the sale and transfer of aviation fuel and military equipment to the terrorist military junta, and effectively block its sources of revenue and banking channels used to finance the purchase of weapons.

(e) Continue documenting and exposing the crimes and human rights violations committed by the terrorist military junta, and undertake coordinated international action to ensure accountability.

(f) Reject the legitimacy of the terrorist military junta by suspending all bilateral and institutional engagement and cooperation with it, recognizing that it is a terrorist organization that has unlawfully usurped state power.

(g) Strengthen cooperation to ensure the full implementation of all resolutions, agreements, and decisions concerning Myanmar adopted by ASEAN, the United Nations, and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

This Statement was adopted by consensus at the Tenth Session of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw held on 1 June 2026 and is hereby issued accordingly.
