Opening ceremony and day one of the fifth Session of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (The Union of the Parliament) has successfully concluded today

The opening ceremony and day one of the fifth Session of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (The Union of the Parliament) was virtually convened today at 10:00 AM Myanmar time in accordance with the guidance of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw where 237 elected representatives joined.

At the opening, representatives and guests took salute by a minute’s silence to honor the fallen democracy defenders who made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives, in the past and current struggles. Later, H.E. U Aung Kyi Nyunt, the Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, H.E. Mr. Duwa Lashi La, Acting President of the National Unity Government (NUG), H.E. Mahn Win Khaing Than, Union Prime Minister of the National Unity Government (NUG), Hon. Madam Heidi Hautala, Vice President of the European Parliament, Hon. Mr. Charles Santiago, Chairperson of the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights delivered their speeches. Hon. Mr. Duarte Pacheco, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union sent his video-message at the opening.

Following that, the Report of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, the Report on the Progress and Activities for strengthening parliamentary engagement and cooperation by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, the Report on the activities and future plans of the National Unity Government (NUG) were submitted.

Hon. U Arkar Myo Htet, Member of Amyotha Hluttaw representing Yangon Constituency No. (7) submitted the proposal for welcoming and acknowledging the United Nations Security Council’s resolution on Myanmar (Resolution 2669(2022)) and the Hluttaw approved.

At the session for the NUG’s Ministries on the questions by the Members of the Pyiduangsu Hluttaw, questions regarding “the current and future activities of international relations and diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs” by U Lar Min Htan, Member of House of Nationalities representing Constituency No. (9) of Chin State, “Functions at home and abroad of the Ministry of Human Rights in order to implement for justice for the people of Myanmar who have been killed and suffered by the several violations of the military junta” by Daw Phyu Phyu Lwin, Member of House of Nationalities representing Constiutency No. (1) of Yangon Region, “the current and future functions of the Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Management for health, living, foods and safety of displaced people including elder persons, pregnant women and children” by Mi Cho Thae, Member of Pyithu Hluttaw representing Chaungsone Township were answered by the relevant ministries.

The day-one’s programs were concluded at 12:55 PM and the second day of the fifth Session of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw is continuing tomorrow’s morning at 10:00 AM.
