The Committee Representing the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) Leadership had a virtual discussion with the Australian Parliamentary Friends of Myanmar yesterday, the very day that the Australian Parliament welcomed into the House of Representatives Chamber, Professor Sean Turnell and his wife Dr. Ha Vu who were given standing ovation.
The conversation ranged across ways to further strengthen the cooperation and support for the democratic actors in their quest to have the military junta violence and heinous acts cease and a return to democracy, so that people can live in peace, develop prosperity and we the parliamentarians and other political actors can build a federal constitutional state.
The key topics covered targeted financial sanctions on the military junta actors, their mooted sham election that will do nothing to resolve Myanmar’s crisis and only further inflame the country and official recognition to the CRPH and the National Unity Government (NUG). In the meeting, the Australian Parliamentary Friends of Myanmar reaffirmed that they always stand with and support Myanmar’s elected parliamentarians and the people of Myanmar in the struggle for democracy so that we can cause the cessation of the and to eliminate military junta rule. They were well aware of the widespread atrocities and crimes of humanity perpetrated by the military junta.
Co-Chairs Peter Khalil, MP and Zoe Daniels, MP led the meeting from the Australian side, while CRPH Chair U Aung Kyi Nyunt, CRPH International Relations Chairwoman Daw Myat Thida Htun, Public Affairs Committee Chairwoman Dr. Khin Soe Soe Kyi, Women, Youth and Children Affairs Committee U Win Naing and NUG Representative in Australia Dr. Tun Aung Shwe led it from the Myanmar side.
Australian MPs committed to continue their strong support to the CRPH and to carry forward the conversation in all fora.
