Statement on the Passing of the United States Senator Hon. Mrs. Dianne Feinstein

1 October 2023

The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) of Burma’s democratically elected people’s representatives in the 2020 general election mourns the passing of the United States Senator Hon. Mrs. Dianne Feinstein on 29 September 2023.

She was, as is said by all, a trailblazer in her own country and also in foreign affairs. She was a long time and true friend to the people of Burma strongly supporting our democracy struggle and defending our human rights since 1992.

Since the unlawful coup of 1 February 2021 by the military junta, Mrs. Dianne Feinstein spoke up and expressed her concerns as follows:

“Myanmars democratic transition is precarious, and I fear if we take no action this coup will return the country to a permanent military dictatorship.”

Mrs. Dianne Feinstein gave a strong and powerful voice to our struggle and contributed practical efforts for the release of democratic leaders, the end of the brutal military junta and their undemocratic rule. The people of Burma will always remember you and your support.

As a Senator, Mrs. Dianne Feinstein was the longest-serving Senator of the United States. We express our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Feinstein’s family, her Senate and Congress, her party and the people of the United States for the loss of a titan of the country that she dedicated her life to serving.
