The House of Representatives resolves as follows:
Japan has supported the process of democratization in Myanmar as its largest donor. The military coup on 1 February this year trampled on the efforts and hopes for democratization, and the current military regime has no legitimacy. Since the coup d’etat, violence against civilians by the military and police has continued despite repeated calls against the violence from the international community, causing a large number of casualties.
The House of Representatives of Japan resolutely condemns this situation and declares that it stands together with the people of Myanmar who have been speaking out and taking action to regain their freedom, human rights and democracy. The House also strongly calls upon the military leadership to immediately halt its atrocities against civilians; immediately release those Myanmarese and foreign nationals who are unjustly detained, including State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi; respect human rights and human security; and swiftly restore the democratic political system.
The House of Representatives strongly requests the Government of Japan to exert its utmost effort, utilizing all available diplomatic resources and in cooperation with the international community, to quickly fulfill these items mentioned above in line with the will of the House.
